ICO brought No Kings to Pride!
If you haven’t heard yet, ICO had a spectacular float in the Columbus Stonewall Pride Parade, more than 200 marchers, and a truly exuberant reception from the crowd. Thanks to the MANY people who worked to make the event such a resounding success, and to all the ICO members who showed up to march with us!
You can see photos in this album, and watch multiple amazing videos at our YouTube channel (check this short!). We also got a lot of good press, including articles in the Dispatch and USA Today. We heard repeatedly that our float got the loudest cheers and had the most impressive number of marchers. “No Kings!” and other pro-love, anti-fascist signs greeted us all along the parade route. It was an inspiring event and a huge boost in these scary times!
And it wasn’t just Columbus! – ALL of Central Ohio said “No Kings!” There was amazing turnout everywhere, including gatherings of hundreds and sometimes multiple thousands in Clintonville, Delaware, Hilliard, Knox County, Lancaster, London, Mansfield, Marion, Mount Gilead, Pickerington, Newark, Springfield, Sunbury, Washington Court House, Westerville and Zanesville (apologies to any places not mentioned).
Turnout was impressive all around Ohio and across the US. With as many as 6 million protesters (or more) No Kings was, according to one data scientist, the largest protest in US history.
Keep the Momentum Building
Building momentum is so important! We are already planning the next big event. SAVE THE DATE: The next big protest is planned for Thursday, July 17, in the early evening. Feel free to sign up HERE but be aware, this is just a save-the-date placeholder! The time, location and details may change. Watch this space (and all our other spaces) for more specific information coming as soon as possible.

TAKE ACTION THIS WEEK
OPPOSE SJR 3 – Apply to Congress: Constitutional Convention for Certain Purposes
What’s new: SJR 3 received a third proponent/opponent/interested party hearing in the Senate General Government Committee on 6/17/25, so a vote might come soon!
What it does: This resolution is an Application to the Congress of the United States for a Convention of the States under Article V of the Constitution of the United States. The bill specifies that the convention is limited to proposing amendments that impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit the power and jurisdiction of the federal government, and limit the terms of office for its officials and Members of Congress. According to the Legislative Service Commission analysis, the application for an Article V convention is valid only if combined with applications from other state legislatures that are calling for a convention for substantially the same purpose. Also, if the convention considers any changes to the Bill of Rights, the application is void.
What to do (URGENT!}:
Contact your state senator and these members of the Senate General Government Committee:
Kristina Roegner, chair - 614-466-4823; roegner@ohiosenate.gov
Theresa Gavarone, vice chair (and bill sponsor) - 614-466-8060; gavarone@ohiosenate.gov
Willis Blackshear, ranking member – 614-466-4538; blackshear@ohiosenate.gov
Call script:
Hi. This is _____________ and I’m calling from [full address if leaving a message.] I’m calling to urge [elected official] to reject SJR 3, which would apply to Congress for a Constitutional Convention. SJR 3 sets limits the kinds of amendments that could proposed, but our Constitution gives NO RULES for an Article V Convention. Despite attempts to narrow the scope of the convention, those who would be convening to rewrite our Constitution might be unelected and unaccountable. The Constitution does not limit the convention to a single issue, so delegates might decide to revoke some or all of our freedoms – of speech, of religion, the right to peaceful protest and to privacy, and even the right to vote – despite the intention to preserve the Bill of Rights. Also, nothing stops corporations from pouring money into the convention to get what they want. Since no judicial, legislative, or executive body would have clear authority to settle convention disputes, endless legal battles could follow and threaten both our democracy and our economy. SJR 3 is dangerous! Please do not allow it to move forward. Thanks for your consideration.
