Coming in May -- OH12 Graduating HS Seniors Voter Registration Project

An Easy Voter Registration (VR) project is starting in May. You can do this in your own precinct, and/or in additional precincts.

As we search for ways to register likely progressive voters, young voters are a priority. They overwhelmingly voted for Biden last fall. And young people are very concerned about climate change and voter suppression efforts.

We have an opportunity to find and register those turning 18 in 2 ways:

1.  In Columbus (& hopefully some suburban districts), we have a directory of graduating HS seniors from which we can prepare walking lists by precinct.

2.  In other areas, we can check for "Congrats grad!" banners.

The project is for OH12 volunteers to adopt their home precinct (plus 1 or 2 more might be managable).  Relying on walking lists OR by cruising the streets once a week or so looking for signs of a graduating senior in the house, and then we'll visit that residence and register that new potential voter. This will be an outdoor, COVID safe activity!

We are preparing:

  • Instructions on how to easily determine your home or preferred precinct, and then print the ward/precinct map for your selected precinct(s);

  • A Sign-up Genius sign-up for your precincts;

  • Materials & a script;

  • Voter Registration packets to leave at the door if the graduating senior is not home, including our own OH12 "Be a Voter!" card.

  • Virtual Voter Registration trainings.

Stay tuned! More on this coming soon.
